Temple tour

Chiang Mai province has most temples in whole Thailand, more than 300!!! So we start an introduction to some of them...

Wat is a Thai word for temple - here is Wat Larm Chang (WLC) with a beautiful roof edge.

WLC next to it's ancient part.

WLC chapel from the front.

Here are the decorations on the inside walls of the oldest temple in Chiang Mai -
Wat Chiang Man (WCM). It´s foundations are from 1296.

WCM main altar. Buddha is not as old as one might think, because 2500 years ago
there were no Buddha images  as we know them today.

WCM doors - from the outside decorated with small mirrors and coloured glass piaces, which shine in the sun.

WCM garden is also very nice.

It seems like this monk is so used  to tourists, that he just ignored us, turned on his radio
and started reading some (holy?) book.

Coffee break!

...and then my favorite temple, which just "popped up" unplanned on our way - Wat Pamping

Inside WP there were comfortable chairs -very unusual.

and a very beautiful altar!

Next temple with a name impossible to pronounce... try yourself!

WU decorations inside the chapel.

Outside the small chapel of WU, there were these frightening creatures.

When we came to Wat Dwung Dee, some ceremony just started.

WDD small chapel before being repainted

WDD´s main altar

We always wonder how you get electricity to flow through these installations!?

One decorative temple without name?

Inside you could write a wish on a golden leave with you zodiac sign.
Notice the clock - it´s a must in every temple. Why? Tell me if you know!

Wat Pan Tao - is a beautiful piece of ancient art, constructed of  moulded teak panels fitted together.

The most touristic temple - Wat Chedi Luang - Lanna style chedi is from 1441, recently restaurated.
We will soon take a look inside!

Outside, the business goes on as always. Flowers, birds to let free (and then they catch them again....)

WCL main altar is amazing!

The donations are very secure....

Next wat - Wat Chang Tam.

More impressing from the outside.

In the garden of  Wat Jet Rin.

Outside the temple Wat Fon Soi.

A short break before entering WFS

and foot massage at the end of the day...  well prepared for the  next 289 temples :-)
